Moving In

Arrival dates, what to bring and practical guidance for moving into Luma halls.

Arrival dates

Main move-in weekend for September entrants is 13–14 September 2026. You receive a timed arrival slot through the accommodation portal to manage traffic and queuing. International students with extended contracts may arrive from 19 September; early arrival requests are considered for students travelling long distances.

Collect your key fob, room keys and welcome pack from your hall reception. ID verification is required. Welcome Week activities begin 15 September regardless of arrival date.

What to bring

Bring bedding or hire a bedding pack, towels, kitchen utensils if your flat agrees shared purchases, toiletries, study materials and clothing for West Midlands weather including waterproofs and warm layers. A doorstop helps during the first week when flats socialise with doors open.

Do not bring pets, excessive furniture or items prohibited under fire regulations. A packing list is available on the accommodation website.

Parking and deliveries

Temporary parking is available in designated bays during move-in weekend; display your permit obtained from reception. After move-in, students cannot keep cars on campus without pre-approved permits, which are limited and prioritised for disability needs.

Courier deliveries to halls should use your full room address including flat number. A parcel room operates at Beacon Court reception for collections when you are unavailable.

Settling in

Resident assistants host floor meetings during the first week introducing hall rules, fire safety procedures and social events. Flatmates often establish shared kitchen rules early—discuss cleaning, food storage and guest policies openly.

Register with a GP, collect your student ID card and attend Welcome Week sessions covering academic induction, library tours and students' union activities. If room issues arise—a maintenance fault or incompatible flat dynamics—contact your resident tutor promptly.
