Frequently asked questions about applying to and enrolling at Luma University.
Application process
Undergraduate applications are submitted through UCAS using institution code N65. Postgraduate applications use our online portal unless you are applying for a research degree requiring prior supervisor contact. Application fees apply to some postgraduate programmes; UCAS charges a separate fee for undergraduate applications.
We do not accept paper applications. All communications regarding your application are sent to the email address registered on UCAS or our portal—check spam folders regularly and keep contact details updated.
Offers and enrolment
Conditional offers specify grades or requirements you must meet before enrolment. Unconditional offers confirm your place without further academic conditions. Enrolment is completed online before your programme start date and includes identity verification, module registration and agreement to university regulations.
International students must meet visa requirements and pay any required deposit before receiving a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). CAS statements are issued no more than six months before programme start.
Frequently asked questions
- How long does it take to receive a decision?
- We aim to respond within four to six weeks during peak periods. Nursing, social work and PGCE applications involving interviews may take longer. Check UCAS Track or your applicant portal for updates.
- Can I defer my entry?
- Deferral requests are considered for most programmes if submitted before accepting your offer. Nursing, medicine and some accredited courses do not permit deferral due to NHS placement allocation. Contact admissions with your deferral request and reason.
- Does Luma accept the International Baccalaureate?
- Yes. Typical offers range from 28 to 32 points depending on programme, with higher points required for HL subjects where specified on course pages.
- What if I have mitigating circumstances affecting my grades?
- Inform us through your UCAS application or by emailing admissions with evidence. Our admissions panel considers mitigating circumstances when making offers and during Clearing.
- How do I prove my English language level?
- Non-native speakers require IELTS 6.0–6.5 overall depending on programme, with no component below 5.5. Alternative qualifications include PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT and some school-leaving qualifications taught in English.
- Can I visit campus before applying?
- Yes. Open days are open to all prospective applicants. Register on our website. Self-guided campus tours using our mobile app are available year-round.
