Airport Pickup Service

Free arrival support from Birmingham Airport for new international students.

Booking pickup

Luma provides free coach transfers from Birmingham Airport (BHX) to campus during international arrival week, 19–21 September 2026. Coaches depart at 11:00, 15:00 and 19:00 daily from the arrivals hall meeting point signposted with university branding.

Register for pickup through the applicant portal by 1 September, providing flight details and mobile number. We monitor flight delays where possible but cannot wait indefinitely—contact the emergency number on your confirmation if flights are substantially delayed.

Alternative arrival

Students arriving outside scheduled pickup times should take the free Air-Rail Link to Birmingham International railway station, then direct train to Luma (approximately 45 minutes total). Taxis from Birmingham Airport cost £35–45; use licensed ranks only.

Manchester and East Midlands airports are reachable by train with one change. Allow extra time for luggage and unfamiliar routes. The International Office publishes step-by-step guides for each airport.

What to expect on arrival

Pickup coaches deliver you to your hall reception where resident assistants help with check-in if arriving during allocated move-in times. If halls are not yet open, temporary lounge facilities with refreshments are available while you wait.

Keep passport, CAS letter, accommodation confirmation and emergency contact details accessible. Mobile SIM cards are available for purchase on campus during Welcome Week.
