International Student Support

The International Office in the Student Services building provides visa advice, compliance registration, cultural orientation and pastoral support. Advisers understand challenges including homesickness, academic culture differences and practical matters such as council tax exemption and driving licence queries.

Drop-in hours are Monday to Friday 10:00–16:00. Email [email protected] for appointments outside these times. The office coordinates with academic schools when visa issues affect enrolment status.

International Student Ambassadors meet arrivals at the airport, lead campus tours and host social events throughout the year. Country-specific student groups organise cultural celebrations including Diwali, Lunar New Year and Eid gatherings on campus.

Buddy programmes pair new international students with experienced peers in the same academic school for the first semester.

Academic skills workshops address British higher education expectations including critical analysis, seminar participation, referencing conventions and avoiding plagiarism. One-to-one tutorials with learning developers support students transitioning from different educational systems.

Personal tutors monitor progress and can refer international students to additional support if language or cultural adjustment affects performance.

The Graduate Route visa allows eligible international graduates to remain in the UK for two years (three years for doctoral graduates) to work or seek employment. The careers service provides guidance on Graduate Route applications, CV preparation for UK employers and understanding workplace culture.

Alumni networks in major home countries support graduates returning home or maintaining UK connections.
