Visa Information

International students studying full-time programmes lasting more than six months typically require a Student visa. Luma University holds a Student Route sponsor licence and issues Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) statements to eligible applicants after all offer conditions are met and required deposits paid.

Apply for your visa up to six months before programme start if applying from outside the UK. Processing times vary by country; check UK Visas and Immigration guidance for current estimates. Do not book non-refundable travel until your visa is granted unless you accept the financial risk.

Your CAS includes your personal details, course information, tuition fees and documents used to assess your application. Verify all details before applying for your visa—errors delay processing. You must demonstrate sufficient funds for tuition plus living costs: £9,207 for nine months outside London as of 2026, held for 28 consecutive days in an approved account.

Provide tuberculosis test results if applying from a listed country. Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) clearance is required for certain science and engineering postgraduate programmes—apply separately through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.

Collect your Biometric Residence Permit within ten days of arrival if required. Attend mandatory visa compliance registration with the International Office during Welcome Week. We monitor attendance and academic engagement as sponsor duties require; sustained absence without approved leave may trigger visa curtailment reporting.

Working restrictions permit up to twenty hours per week during term time for degree-level study. Exceeding permitted hours breaches visa conditions. The International Office publishes guidance on permitted employment types.

Dependants may accompany postgraduate research students or government-sponsored students on programmes lasting more than nine months. Undergraduate students generally cannot bring dependants under current immigration rules. Consult the International Office before making family relocation plans.

Extend your visa before expiry if continuing study or resitting examinations. Apply within the UK where eligible; late applications may require departure and reapplication from your home country.
