Study Spaces

The third floor provides silent study with 180 individual carrels, strictly enforced through peer reporting and staff patrols. Phones must be silenced; whispered conversation is not permitted. The silent floor is popular during examination periods—arrive early during peak times or use booking for guaranteed seat at group study elsewhere.

Silent study zones also operate in the Digital Learning Hub during peak demand.

Fourteen bookable group study rooms accommodate four to eight students and include display screens, whiteboards and power outlets. Book up to two weeks ahead through the library website; sessions are two hours maximum during busy periods to ensure fair access.

Walk-in group tables on the first and second floors permit quiet discussion without booking.

Adjustable height desks, assistive technology workstations and a quiet room for neurodivergent students requiring low-sensory environments are available on the ground floor. Book the quiet room through disability support or the library help desk.

All study floors are accessible by lift; accessible toilets are on each floor.

Following the 2026 renovation, overall study capacity increased by 35 per cent. New furniture supports mixed postures including standing desks. The ground floor café in the library atrium permits conversation and light laptop work without booking.

Occupancy indicators on the website show approximate availability on each floor updated hourly during term time.
