Between 5 and 8 May 2026, Luma University celebrated the achievements of 2,143 graduates across ceremonies held at Luma Cathedral and the Great Hall on the Edgewater campus. Honorary degrees were conferred upon local entrepreneur Janet Morrison MBE, children's author and Luma alumna Dr Rebecca Shaw, and Professor Sir Michael Adeyemi in recognition of his contributions to medical research.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Margaret Chen told graduands that their qualifications represent not only personal achievement but also a commitment to the communities they will serve. "You joined Luma during a period of significant change—in higher education, in technology, and in our region's economy. You leave us equipped to lead, to innovate, and to make a difference," she said in her address on the final day of ceremonies.
Graduates from the School of Health received their awards on 5 May in a ceremony attended by the Chief Nurse of the West Midlands NHS Trust. The School of Engineering ceremony on 6 May featured a flypast tribute from a former student now serving as an RAF engineer. Families travelled from across the UK and from 42 countries to celebrate with their graduands.
The students' union organised a graduation fair on the campus green, offering photography services, gown returns and refreshments. Graduate employability data released alongside the ceremonies showed that 89 per cent of Luma graduates were in employment or further study within fifteen months of completing their degrees, consistent with the previous year's outcomes.
Alumni relations teams encouraged new graduates to join the Luma Alumni Network, which now comprises over 48,000 members worldwide. Winter graduation ceremonies for students completing courses in December will take place in January 2027.
